The Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury is launching Let’s Talk Tuesdays.

This forum is open to parents of children with learning disabilities.

Join us every Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom to share information, get resources, work through challenges and celebrate successes.

Sessions will start on Tuesday, April 21st, 2020.

Medical Expenses and Learning Disabilities for the 2019 Taxation Year

Medical Expenses and Learning Disabilities for the 2019 taxation year.

There are a number of services that it may be possible to claim as medical expenses on income tax, either by an individual with learning disabilities or a family member on behalf of an individual with learning disabilities. You can claim eligible medical expenses paid in any 12-month period ending in 2019 and not claimed by you or anyone else in 2018.

LDAS Honours Seven Sudburians at 4th Annual Awards Dinner

The Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury (LDAS) hosted their 4th Annual
Awards Dinner at the Holiday Inn on November 12th, 2019. With more than 120 people in attendance, the fundraising dinner recognized individuals and community partners that have contributed to the successful and continuous growth of the organization. The non-profit organization formed in 2003 when a small group of passionate parents set up an organization that supported children with learning disabilities and their families.

This year’s honoured guests are:
Teresa Aiello – Outstanding Student Award
Sheri Windsor – Ron Lessard Outstanding Parent Award
Elizabeth Brett-Dickie – Outstanding Volunteer Award
Laurie Portelance – Outstanding Educator Award (RBSB)
Sarah Pappin – Outstanding Educator Award (SCDSB)
Huntington University – Corporate Contribution Award
Chief Paul Pedersen – Outstanding Leadership Award

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

NOCLD AND HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

The Northern Ontario Centre for Learning Differences (NOCLD), along with Huntington University, are proud to announce Kendra Chirico of Sturgeon Falls, ON and Cameron Boland, of Sudbury, ON, as the winners of the 2019 Northern Ontario Student Transition Scholarships. The two scholarships are awarded to students pursuing a full-time program in the fall of their graduating year at an accredited post-secondary institution in Northern Ontario. As winners, they have each received a $500 scholarship provided by Huntington University.

The Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury is pleased to announce the launch of our Journey To Success Adventure Day. This one-day session will help prepare students for the coming school year, by discovering their learning potential in the following ways:

  • Develop a learning profile to promote self-awareness
  • Learn how to ask for help to develop self-advocacy
  • Get organized
  • Calm the mind with techniques for self-regulation
  • Discover how assistive technology can support success
